GURUGRAM: Mehmood Khan, the JJP-AAP alliance candidate for the Gurugram parliamentary seat, said on Thursday he would focus on women’s empowerment and development of rural parts of the constituency.
Khan was on a visit to Gurugram village, where he interacted with residents and villagers from neighbouring areas. Khan is from Mewat and his family is involved in agriculture.

“I have an emotional attachment to Gurugram village. Every time I visit it, it reminds me of my roots. What also makes this a special place for me is the people who reside here. It is important for me to receive the blessings of the elders who have been my backbone and an important pillar of support,” he said.
An IIM-Ahmedabad alumnus, Khan worked with Unilever for nearly three decades and is now founder president of the IIM network in Europe. He is also a managing trustee of Rasuli Kanwar Khan Trust, which is involved in the social upliftment of Mewat residents.
Khan is the only Muslim candidate in Gurugram.
Eyeing the nearly five lakh Muslim votes in the Gurugram Lok Sabha constituency, the alliance hopes to cater to both the minority community and the urban voters spread across the Gurugram and Badshapur assembly constituencies by nominating Khan. His candidature could queer the pitch for Congress candidate Captain Ajay Yadav, who too has been pinning his hopes on the Muslim vote.
Speaking with local youths, Khan said he will also work for the upliftment of women and generation of employment opportunities. “Listening to their problems has further cemented my thoughts on the manifesto that I have created for women empowerment, safety and development in this region,” he said.
